Whoopi Goldberg Denies "Blazing Saddles" Racism: “Don't Make Me Come For You”

Mindy Kaling's statement that The Office couldn't be filmed today because the characters are "inappropriate" elevated the film's response to "Hot Topics."

The 1974 Mel Brooks satirical western comedy stars Cleavon Little and Gene Wilder as a politician who employs a Black sheriff to manage a troubled community. The View moderator denied the film was racist.

“It tackles racism head-on, making you think and laugh,” she remarked. “He hits all the isms, not just racism.”

Goldberg added, “Blazing Saddles, because it's a fantastic comedy, would still go over today. Many comedies are bad, OK? Just saying. Nope. Blazing Saddles affects everyone."

The Oscar winner recommended cohost Sunny Hostin to view the film for the first time. “Leave my Blazing Saddles alone, don't make me come for you,” Goldberg said later in the discussion.

Sarah Haines called for “a sacred space for comedians” because “laughing is literally the greatest therapy for life and everything that it brings, the inevitable suffering.”

Haines said, “If we cannot leave comedians alone, if they stop pushing the boundaries, they'll walk in it and they'll step over it.
